As part of a dynamic learning experience for Year 3 students, the concept of light and dark is explored through group presentations, allowing children to delve into the science behind these natural phenomena and their effects on daily life. Towards the end of their learning journey, students are encouraged to showcase their understanding by presenting their findings to their classmates. This not only reinforces their knowledge but also hones their public speaking and collaboration skills. Presentations can be conducted in various formats, including the use of staff-created PowerPoint slides that encapsulate the ongoing learning for a visual and interactive discussion.

Students are organised into small groups, with a maximum of six members, to ensure effective collaboration and participation. Each group is tasked with investigating and presenting on one of several key topics: the formation of shadows, the interplay between the Sun, Moon, and Earth, the behaviour of light upon encountering reflective surfaces, and the reasons behind the use of sunglasses. By engaging in this activity, children are prompted to research, discuss, and explain complex concepts in a manner that is understandable to their peers, thereby enhancing their comprehension and ability to communicate scientific ideas. This approach to learning emphasises the practical implications of light and dark in our everyday lives, making the subject matter more relatable and engaging for young learners.
