Games 5 - Lesson 6
Physical Education Resource Description
In the sixth lesson of Year 1's Games 5 series, the pupils are encouraged to perform at their best and keep track of their fitness achievements. The learning objectives are centred around remembering and repeating fitness skills learned in previous sessions, completing activities without pausing, and accurately recording their results. The success of this lesson is measured by the pupils' ability to recall and execute the exercises, maintain continuous activity, and correctly input their performance scores. Key vocabulary for this lesson includes terms such as fitness, circuit, scoring, exercises, continuous, jumping, and working hard. The necessary equipment comprises benches, cones, scoresheets with pencils, and mats.
The lesson is structured into three main segments, beginning with a warm-up that lasts for 10 minutes and involves jogging exercises in pairs designed to synchronise movements and prepare the body for the session. The core of the lesson is a 30-minute recording circuit, where pupils rotate through six different fitness stations, including step-ups, jumping jacks, tricep dips, bench jumps, dead bugs, and burpees. Each activity is performed for 2 minutes with a subsequent 2-minute rest to allow for recovery and score recording. Teachers are encouraged to use key points from previous lessons to guide the pupils, with extensions and variations to adapt the activities to different abilities. The session concludes with a 10-minute cool down, where pupils reflect on their fitness journey over the past six weeks, discussing what they have learned, their favourite activities, and their strengths and weaknesses in fitness.
