Maths Resource Description
The 'Fluent in Four - Revision' exercise is designed for Year 3 students to practice their arithmetic skills as part of the Spring Term curriculum in Week 7, Day 3. The activity challenges the pupils to solve a series of mathematical problems, beginning with the multiplication of thirty-one by half of sixteen. This task requires students to understand the concept of halving and then multiplying to find the answer. Additionally, they are tasked with identifying the product of an unknown number and nine that results in thirty-six, which hones their division and multiplication skills. The exercise includes a bar model problem where students must add together amounts in pence to find the total, encouraging them to apply their addition skills in a practical context.
In the same set of activities, children are asked to use their rulers to draw lines of specific lengths, enhancing their understanding of measurement. They must draw one line that is longer than four centimetres but shorter than six centimetres, and another that is longer than half of ten centimetres but shorter than half of sixteen centimetres. This activity not only tests their ability to measure and compare lengths but also reinforces their knowledge of fractions and how to apply them in a real-world context. Finally, the students are prompted to think about various items that would be longer or taller than a metre, encouraging them to visualise and estimate measurements and compare different lengths. These tasks are designed to be engaging and interactive, helping children to develop a solid foundation in mathematics through practical application.
