Max Maths, Year 6, Practice, Measuring length
Maths Resource Description
In this section of a Year 6 mathematics practice activity, students are tasked with measuring the length of various lines using a ruler. The exercise is designed to help them become proficient in reading measurements in both centimetres and millimetres. They are given a series of lines, labelled from (a) to (e), and are required to measure each one carefully. After measuring, they must record the lengths in the spaces provided, ensuring that they note down both the centimetre and millimetre parts of their measurements. This task helps to solidify their understanding of metric units and their ability to use measuring tools accurately.
Following the measurement activity, students are invited to engage in a drawing exercise to further practise their skills. Using dotted paper, they are instructed to draw lines of specific lengths, each one to be drawn in a different colour as specified. For example, they are to draw a green line measuring 5.7 cm, a red line that is 11.7 cm long, and so on, with each line having its unique length and colour requirement. This part of the activity not only reinforces their measuring skills but also allows them to apply their knowledge creatively. Students are encouraged to refer to workbook pages 92 to 93 for additional practice and guidance.
