Show it! Group presentation - British Empire - Year 6
History Resource Description
As part of the interactive learning experience in Year 6, students are encouraged to explore and present their understanding of the British Empire. Towards the end of their studies on this historical topic, children are given the chance to showcase their knowledge to their peers. This presentation can be executed in various forms, such as group discussions or visual aids like PowerPoint slides prepared by the teaching staff, which encapsulate the ongoing learning and facilitate class engagement.
Working in small teams of up to six members, children can select from a range of topics related to the British Empire for their presentations. These topics include the East India Company, which played a significant role in the empire's expansion, the Commonwealth of Nations as a political association of former empire territories, the complex and somber history of the British Empire and Slavery, the circumstances surrounding the decline and the end of the British Empire, and the Voyages of Discovery that led to its formation. Through these presentations, students are expected to delve into the question of when and why the British Empire was created, fostering a deeper understanding of the historical context and its lasting impact.
