Cops and robbers - What do you know about rainforests?
Geography Resource Description
The "Cops and robbers" activity is an engaging educational game designed to enhance pupils' knowledge about rainforests in a collaborative and interactive setting. The game is structured to be played in small groups of four, where each pupil starts by spending two minutes to jot down everything they can recall about rainforests on the left side of a table. This initial step allows them to independently document their existing understanding of the topic.
Following their solo recall, each pupil is given 60 seconds to review the information listed by the other three members of their group. The aim here is to identify any new or additional information that they did not originally record. After reviewing their peers' contributions, they can then 'steal' this newfound knowledge by adding it to the 'stolen knowledge' section of their table. This collaborative process not only encourages learning from one another but also gamifies the educational experience. Points are awarded for each piece of information recorded, with the entire activity designed to be completed in approximately 15 minutes. The game not only reinforces existing knowledge but also fosters a deeper understanding of what creates a rainforest and why they are located in specific regions across the globe.
