Noughts and crosses - Rainforests
Geography Resource Description
The 'Noughts and Crosses - Rainforests' activity is an engaging and educational game designed for pairs of Year 5 students to play while learning about rainforests. The game is played on a traditional 3 x 3 noughts and crosses grid, with each pair using different coloured pens to distinguish their answers. The teacher prepares nine questions or statements related to rainforests, which are then posed to the students alternately. The student who is asked must provide a correct answer to earn the right to place their answer on the grid in their chosen cell.
Once a student places their answer on the grid, the game follows the normal rules of noughts and crosses, where the objective is to get three of their coloured answers in a row, either horizontally, vertically, or diagonally. The questions cover a range of topics, including naming different biomes, explaining why rainforests receive abundant rain, identifying the world's largest rainforest, discussing deforestation, and understanding the significance of the Amazon rainforest. Students are also asked to name the layers of a rainforest, list endangered species, and state the country where the Amazon is located. This interactive game not only tests the students' general geographical knowledge on biomes but also enhances their understanding of rainforest ecosystems and the environmental issues associated with them.
