Start of Year Spelling Assessment Test B
English Resource Description
The Start of Year Spelling Assessment Test B is a carefully structured evaluation designed for Year 3 students to assess their spelling proficiency at the beginning of the academic year. The test is comprised of 20 sentences with a missing word that students are required to listen to and then write down accurately. The teacher will read out each sentence, including the missing word, which is to be filled in by the student on the provided line. Students are reminded to pay close attention to the teacher's instructions and to keep their answers private, without showing their sheet to their peers.
To ensure a fair assessment, the teacher will repeat each sentence along with the missing word, giving students a second chance to catch and correctly spell the word. The test is divided into two pages, with marks allocated for each page and a section to tally the total marks at the end of the test. The aim of this assessment is to gauge the students' initial spelling abilities, which can then inform the teacher's planning for spelling instruction throughout the year. The test is a product of KS2Gems, a resource dedicated to supporting Key Stage 2 learning, and is copyrighted in 2022.
