Spelling - air
English Resource Description
In this series of educational slides, young learners are introduced to the 'air' sound through a variety of engaging activities. The slides are designed to be interactive, with some displayed on a whiteboard for group learning and others available as printable versions for individual practice. The lesson begins with visual aids, such as pictures of items including a chair, hair, and a fairy, to help children identify and sound out the 'air' phoneme. Teachers are encouraged to sound out words containing the 'air' sound while children blend and pronounce them aloud, reinforcing their phonetic understanding.
As the lesson progresses, children are asked to recognize the three letters that make up the 'air' sound and are shown how to use sound buttons—dots for single sounds and dashes for digraphs or trigraphs—to visually break down the phonemes in words. Independent activities invite the children to apply their knowledge by adding sound buttons to words, creating new words with the 'air' sound, and labelling pictures correctly. More advanced exercises include finding hidden words, completing sentences with the appropriate 'air' sound word, and playing interactive games like the caterpillar game to reinforce spelling. The lesson also includes spelling challenges and bingo games, with differentiation options to cater to various learning levels, making it an inclusive and comprehensive approach to phonics instruction.
