Show it! Group presentation - Grouping Living Things - Year 4
Science Resource Description
In a Year 4 lesson on grouping living things, children are encouraged to actively participate in demonstrating their understanding of the topic. Towards the end of their learning journey, they are given the chance to present what they have learned to their classmates. This presentation can take various forms, and occasionally, staff members may assist by preparing a PowerPoint presentation that encapsulates the ongoing learning for the class to discuss and reflect upon.
For a more hands-on approach, the children are organised into groups, with each group containing no more than six members. These groups collaborate to prepare and deliver a presentation on a specific category of living organisms. The categories include classifying birds, classifying fish, reptiles, invertebrate creatures, and vertebrate creatures. This group activity not only reinforces the children's understanding of how living things are classified but also enhances their communication and teamwork skills as they present their findings to their peers with the opening line, "Good Morning, I would like to tell you about…" This interactive approach to learning helps to engage the students and allows them to showcase their knowledge in a creative and informative way.
