Cops and Robbers - What do you know about friction? - Magnets and Forces - Year 3

In an interactive classroom activity designed for Year 3 pupils, the concept of friction as a force is explored through a game called "Cops and Robbers." The activity begins with students being given two minutes to jot down everything they can remember about friction on their own. This initial phase encourages them to recall their existing knowledge on the topic, which they write in a designated column on their table.

Following this, the game becomes more dynamic as pupils are given 60 seconds to 'steal' ideas from their peers. They can look at the answers of up to three other children and add any new information they gather to the 'Stolen knowledge' section of their table. This part of the activity not only reinforces their understanding of friction but also promotes sharing knowledge and collaborative learning. For each plausible statement they write down, pupils earn two points, making the activity competitive and engaging.
