Plant Growth (Nutrients and Room) - Self Assessment
Science Resource Description
Students are encouraged to self-assess their understanding of plant nutrition and growth challenges through a series of reflective questions. Firstly, they are asked if they can identify some of the essential nutrients required by plants for healthy growth. These nutrients are fundamental for various physiological functions and contribute to the overall well-being of the plant. The ability to list these nutrients is a key learning objective, demonstrating an understanding of plant biology and the importance of a balanced supply of minerals.
The self-assessment also prompts students to consider the consequences of nutrient deficiencies in plants. They are asked to describe the types of growth problems that may occur if plants do not receive the necessary minerals. This includes recognising symptoms such as stunted growth, discolouration, and other signs of distress in plant development. Additionally, students are challenged to explain the reasons behind some plants adopting a carnivorous lifestyle, which often relates to the scarcity of certain nutrients in their natural habitats. The teacher's feedback section is left blank, providing an opportunity for personalised guidance and reinforcement of the concepts covered in the lesson.
