In the second week's third lesson of Phonics Phase 2, young learners are introduced to the phoneme /n/ and its corresponding grapheme
The lesson continues with a "Quickdash" activity, where children revisit and review previously learned graphemes and pictophones by shouting out the phonemes and names as the flashcards are presented at an increasing pace. The teaching segment includes a story about the Nurse with a Purse, which cleverly incorporates the /n/ sound, allowing children to hear and recognize its occurrence. Students also engage in an action where they mime picking up a purse and listening to it vibrate while making the /n/ sound. To practice, children learn how to form the grapheme by finger writing in the air or on a peer's back, and participate in a "Sound Count" activity to identify the number of sounds in various words. Application of the new knowledge is done through mini whiteboard work, where they practice writing the grapheme, and extension activities such as using chalk and participating in a Letter Hunt.
