Medium Term Plan - Outdoor and Adventurous Activities - Year 7
Physical Education Resource Description
The Year 7 Outdoor and Adventurous Activities (OAA) medium-term plan spans six lessons and aims to instil new skills and techniques in students, focusing on their ability to tackle problems and challenges both individually and as part of a team. The curriculum is designed for Key Stage 3 and seeks to develop basic leadership and management skills, as well as the capacity to plan and execute tasks safely in dynamic environments. Students will delve into problem-solving using available resources, effective teamwork, and performance improvement through feedback. Key skills such as communication, trust, time management, and organisation will be honed through a structured learning sequence that encourages the 'plan–do–review' cycle.
Implementation of the plan involves a variety of engaging activities, each with specific learning objectives. For instance, students will start with problem-solving exercises, progress to trust exercises with partners, and eventually take part in leadership group activities. These tasks are designed to develop their decision-making and evaluation skills, as well as their physical and mental capabilities. The plan includes differentiated learning and assessment tools to cater to individual student needs. The impact of the programme is measured across various competencies such as problem-solving, decision-making, self and peer assessment, and group communication skills. The plan also emphasises the importance of understanding British values like tolerance and respect, and it encourages students to stay healthy and active for life, highlighting potential careers in the sports industry and the significance of health and safety protocols.
