Movement Development - Football
Physical Education Resource Description
The Movement Development exercise is designed for football training, where players are organised into small teams of three or four. The set-up involves working in pairs with a cone placed between them to represent a defender. This drill encourages players to practice making single or double movements to create space and receive a pass from their partner. It's an excellent way to develop agility, anticipation, and communication between players on the pitch.
To cater to different skill levels and to further challenge the players, the exercise includes options for differentiation. Coaches can increase the difficulty by accelerating the speed of direction changes, requiring players to react and move more quickly. Additionally, introducing more cones into the drill can simulate a more crowded playing area, encouraging players to enhance their spatial awareness and dribbling skills. These variations ensure that the exercise remains dynamic and adaptable to the needs of the players, promoting continuous improvement in their movement and ball-handling abilities.
