Cars and Tunnels - Gymnastics
Physical Education Resource Description
In this engaging gymnastics activity called 'Cars and Tunnels', pupils are paired up to take on the roles of a 'car' and a 'tunnel'. The child designated as the 'tunnel' is tasked with creating an arch shape with their body, adjusting the height of the arch to accommodate their partner. This involves using their gymnastic skills to form a stable and supportive structure that is high enough for the 'car' to pass underneath without any obstacles.
Meanwhile, the pupil acting as the 'car' is challenged to navigate through the 'tunnel' while maintaining a flat position. This requires control, coordination, and spatial awareness as they manoeuvre through the arch created by their partner. The exercise not only promotes physical activity and flexibility but also encourages teamwork and communication between the children as they work together to successfully complete the task.
