Max Maths, Year 4, Practice, Review of odd and even numbers
Maths Resource Description
In a Year 4 mathematics practice session, pupils are reviewing the concept of odd and even numbers through a visual and interactive chart activity. Samir has diligently completed a chart for a collection of 100 buttons, color-coding the squares to distinguish between even and odd numbers. For the even numbers, which are those that can be perfectly grouped in pairs of two, he has coloured the squares pink. These are the numbers that, when divided by 2, have no remainder. On the other hand, odd numbers are those that do not fit neatly into pairs and cannot be divided exactly by 2, leaving one left over.
The practice activity encourages students to apply this knowledge by identifying and categorising numbers. They are asked to circle the even numbers and underline the odd numbers in a given list. This hands-on exercise helps to reinforce their understanding of the two types of numbers. Additionally, the students are tasked with completing sentences by filling in the blanks, specifying which digits even and odd numbers end with. For even numbers, these digits include 0, 2, 4, 6, and 8, while odd numbers end with 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. The lesson is designed to be interactive and to provide clear visual cues to aid in the learning process, with further practice available in the workbook on pages 30 to 31.
