Know where I live - Unit Assessment
Geography Resource Description
Year 1 Geography students are assessed on their local knowledge through a series of questions designed by Focus Education (UK) Ltd. The assessment begins by testing their understanding of the United Kingdom's composition, asking them to identify which countries are part of it. They are presented with options and must choose the correct ones that belong to the UK. Further questions challenge the students to match counties with their correct countries within the UK and to demonstrate their grasp of personal geographical information, such as the meaning of an address and the purpose of a postcode.
The assessment continues with queries about the seas surrounding the United Kingdom, requiring the students to select the correct bodies of water. They are also asked to identify capital cities within the UK and associate flags with their corresponding countries. The students' understanding of road signs and traffic safety near schools is evaluated with questions about the significance of triangular road signs and the reasons for speed restrictions near educational institutions. Additionally, they are tasked with identifying cities within England from a list of options. The unit assessment culminates with an exercise where students must locate the United Kingdom on a world map and write down their address and postcode, solidifying their disciplinary knowledge of geography.
