Show it! Group presentation - My local area - Year 1
Geography Resource Description
In the latter stages of their learning journey about the United Kingdom and their local area, Year 1 children are encouraged to showcase their newfound knowledge through group presentations. This exercise serves as a dynamic way for pupils to consolidate their understanding and share insights with their classmates. Presentations can take various forms, and sometimes, educators may facilitate this process by compiling a PowerPoint presentation that captures the essence of the children's ongoing discoveries and projects, which can then be displayed to the entire class.
Working collaboratively in small groups, typically no larger than six members, the children have the option to delve into a range of topics related to their curriculum. They might explore and present on the significance of road signs, delve into the fascinating aspects of major UK cities like Manchester or London, decode the purpose and structure of postcodes, or discuss the various traffic signs they see around them. Each group selects a subject that resonates with them or piques their curiosity, and they prepare to greet their audience with an enthusiastic "Good Morning" before embarking on a journey of sharing what they've learned about the UK and their own local area.
