Statutory Spellings List 1 Quiz
English Resource Description
The KS2Gems 2020 spelling quiz is a brief and engaging activity designed for Year 3 and Year 4 students to help reinforce their grasp of statutory words. The quiz, which takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes, requires no additional equipment for the children, making it an easy fit into any classroom routine. It serves as an effective tool to consolidate the teaching of statutory words, spelling rules, and patterns shortly after they have been introduced, as well as to aid in the long-term retention of these spellings.
During the quiz, students are presented with sentences where they must choose the correct spelling of a missing word from multiple options. For example, they might be asked to select the correct spelling of 'accident' to complete the sentence "There has been a terrible ______ on the motorway." Other words included in the quiz are 'believe', 'address', 'appear', 'bicycle', 'arrive', 'answer', 'actually', 'accidentally', and 'actual'. This activity not only tests their spelling knowledge but also helps to contextualise the words, enhancing their understanding and ability to use them correctly in everyday writing.
