Wild - Learning Objectives
English Resource Description
In Year 2, during the Autumn Term 1, students are introduced to an engaging and diverse curriculum that revolves around the core texts "Wild" by Emily Hughes and "Out and About" by Shirley Hughes. The learning objectives span across various subjects with a particular emphasis on science, focusing on living things, their habitats, and life cycles. The unit's written outcomes aim to develop students' abilities to retell stories with added detail and create their own poems and informational texts, such as fact files, inspired by the themes explored in the core texts.
The learning objectives for this term are meticulously categorized into four key areas: Spoken Language, Reading, Writing - Composition, and Writing - Grammar and Vocabulary. In Spoken Language, students learn to articulate their opinions with reasons, listen to others, and use Standard English in expressing their views. They also practice reciting and performing their compositions. The Reading objectives encourage students to sequence events, identify key ideas, and understand the writer's message, while making predictions and inferences about characters' feelings and actions. In Writing - Composition, objectives include understanding different writing purposes, planning effectively, and evaluating and improving their work. Lastly, the Writing - Grammar and Vocabulary objectives focus on sentence construction, the use of conjunctions, and the choice of precise nouns and effective adjectives to enrich their writing.
