Inspired by: Mr Wolf and the Three Bears - Medium Term Plan

In the Year 1 Module 4 medium-term plan inspired by "Mr Wolf and the Three Bears" by Jan Fearnley, students embark on a six-week journey to enhance their literacy skills through fairy stories, rhymes, and poems. In the first week, the objective is for children to become intimately familiar with fairy tales, understanding and retelling them while identifying their unique characteristics. They will also practice composing sentences orally before writing them down, and learn the importance of capitalisation for names, dates, and the pronoun 'I'. The activities, such as creating a party invitation and discussing birthdays, support these learning goals.

As weeks progress, the plan incorporates various objectives that build upon comprehension, composition, and grammar skills. Students will appreciate rhymes, check their writing for sense, and learn about joining clauses with 'and'. They will also delve into regular plural noun suffixes, the prefix 'un-', and verb suffixes that do not alter the root word's spelling. Each week offers themed activities that align with the objectives, such as 'Rules Of The Kitchen', 'Party Sandwiches', and 'Baby Bear’s Thank You Letter'. The plan is designed to not only teach literacy but also to foster a love for reading and storytelling, culminating in students reading their work aloud and predicting story outcomes based on their understanding.
