Inspired by: Mr Wolf and the Three Bears - Week 5
English Resource Description
Inspired by the tale of 'Mr Wolf and the Three Bears', young learners are encouraged to develop their narrative skills and sentence structuring. The week's activities culminate in a delightful scenario where Grandma, after a tiring week preparing for her TV appearance, joins forces with Mr Wolf to get everything ready for Baby Bear's birthday party. The students reflect on the tasks accomplished throughout the week, leading to a beautifully laid out party table. They are then invited to imagine themselves at the party, deciding where they would sit and what their favourite party treat might be. The activity takes a creative turn as they envision Baby Bear's reaction to the spread and what he might tell his best friend, The Third Little Pig, about the feast.
Another learning opportunity presents itself when Goldilocks arrives, threatening to disrupt the festivities. Here, children explore the use of the prefix 'un-' and how it alters the meaning of words. Through the activity 'Pass the Sentence', they recount Goldilocks' misdeeds using adverbials of time, and consider the contrast between 'happy' and 'unhappy'. The activity encourages them to describe Goldilocks' actions with other 'un-' words, such as 'unkind', 'untidy', and 'unfair', expanding their vocabulary and understanding of word formation. Finally, the students make inferences about the characters' feelings and possible reactions to Goldilocks' bad table manners, prompting them to think about the consequences of one's behaviour in a social setting.
