Week 6, Assessment week guidance document - Phonics Phase 4 - Resource
English Resource Description
The sixth week of the Phonics Phase 4 curriculum is dedicated to assessment, providing an opportunity for teachers to review and evaluate the progress of their students. The objective for the week is to revisit all the concepts learned thus far in a fun and engaging manner. Throughout the week, each day begins with a selection of review games such as Quickdash, Quickwrite, Word Breaker, Tricky Word Race, and Tricky Word Jump. These games are designed to reinforce the students' phonics skills in a dynamic and interactive way.
To apply their knowledge, children are divided into groups and assigned to different tables where they participate in a variety of phonics activities. At Table 1, they practice reading Yes/No phrases and categorise them accordingly. Table 2 involves a Word Match game where children pair word flashcards with corresponding object flashcards. At Table 3, students engage in Mini Whiteboard Work, reading and writing tricky words and using them in sentences. Table 4 features the Spot the Fake activity, where children sort word cards into 'real' or 'fake' categories. Finally, Table 5 offers a selection of worksheets from the current or previous weeks for additional practice. The week culminates with one-on-one assessments where each child completes the Phase 4 assessment sheets, allowing the teacher to gauge individual learning outcomes.
