Week 5, lesson 3 CVCC Review Day - Phonics Phase 4 - Lesson plan
English Resource Description
In Week 5, Day 3 of the Phonics Phase 4 lesson plan, the focus is on reinforcing children's understanding and proficiency in reading and spelling CVCC words. The objective of the lesson is to review these particular word structures, prompting students to recall what constitutes a CVCC word. The lesson begins with a dynamic 'Quickdash' activity where children rapidly identify phonemes from a series of graphemes and pictophones displayed at increasing speeds, shouting out the corresponding sounds.
The 'Sentence Sub' exercise allows children to engage in interactive reading and comprehension. A sentence is written on the board, and the teacher demonstrates how to read it. Words within the sentence are then swapped out for new ones, and students raise their hands if the new sentence still makes sense. This is followed by either a volunteer reading the altered sentence or the entire class decoding it together, with various substitutions offered for practice. In the 'Word Match Lines' game, children are divided into two groups and tasked with matching object flashcards to the correct word flashcards through decoding and visual identification. To apply what they've learned, students use mini whiteboards to write down dictated words and phrases, thereby consolidating their knowledge of CVCC words in both written and oral forms.
