Week 4, lesson 5 Review Day - Phonics Phase 4 - Lesson plan
English Resource Description
In the fourth week's fifth lesson of the phonics programme, the objective is to reinforce the children's ability to read consonant-vowel-consonant-consonant (CVCC) and consonant-consonant-vowel-consonant (CCVC) words while also focusing on the correct spelling of previously encountered tricky words. The lesson starts with a 'Letter Pops' activity, where children are given grapheme cards and are asked to hold up the corresponding card when a specific phoneme is called out, engaging them in a quick and interactive revision.
The teaching and practice segment of the lesson involves a 'Caption Match' exercise. Here, the teacher writes a phrase on the board and, with the help of the children, reads it aloud. They then compare the phrase to a picture to determine if they match, enhancing their reading comprehension and decoding skills. This is followed by 'Spot the Fake', a game where children differentiate between real and nonsense words, promoting their phonemic awareness. The lesson concludes with a 'Write Race', a timed challenge where children practice writing the tricky words "do", "does", "when", "out", and "what", focusing on the tricky graphemes. This activity not only aids in memorisation but also adds a fun and competitive element to the learning process.
