Week 5, lesson 3 Letter formation - "f" - Phonics Phase 2 - Worksheet

In the third lesson of Week 5, young learners are introduced to the phoneme /l/ and its corresponding grapheme through an engaging and interactive approach. The objective of the lesson is for children to become familiar with the /l/ sound, which is creatively introduced with the help of a character called the Lion with a Tie On. This character is presented on a card alongside the grapheme flashcard , sparking curiosity and excitement among the students.

The lesson plan includes a variety of activities to reinforce learning. It begins with a 'Quickdash' activity, where children rapidly review previously learned graphemes and corresponding pictophones, shouting out the phonemes and names as they go. To further teach the /l/ sound, a story about the Lion with a Tie On is shared, with particular emphasis on the /l/ sound. Children are also encouraged to participate in an action that mimics the story's content by swinging their arms like a lion's tail while enunciating the /l/ sound. Practising the formation of the grapheme is done through air writing or tracing on a friend's back. To apply their knowledge, students read and act out phrases containing the /l/ sound and practise writing the grapheme on mini whiteboards. The lesson plan also suggests extension activities such as Letter Circling and using Shaving Foam for a multisensory learning experience.
