Games 4 - Lesson 1
Physical Education Resource Description
In the first lesson of the Games 4 series for Year 1, the aim is to develop pupils' football dribbling skills. The learning objectives set out a clear goal for the students: to be able to control and dribble a football in a straight line, across different directions, and to stop the ball with precision. Key vocabulary such as 'football', 'dribbling', 'control', 'accuracy', and 'inside of foot' is introduced to familiarize students with the technical terms. The lesson requires basic equipment including cones, footballs, and hoops to facilitate the activities planned.
The lesson is structured into a warm-up, main session, and cool down, each segment designed to progressively build on the pupils' abilities. The warm-up involves a 'Stop, Go, Down' exercise where pupils follow commands to interact with the ball, focusing on small touches and using the inside of the foot for control. The main session includes activities like 'Plan a Route', where pupils navigate a course of cones with the ball, and 'In The Ocean', a group game where they retrieve balls from the centre of the play area. The session concludes with 'Location, Location', a dynamic drill that has pupils dribbling between numbered corners. Each activity is designed to reinforce the key teaching points and includes extensions and variations to cater for different skill levels and to keep the session engaging. The cool down brings the lesson to a gentle close with a 'Follow The Teacher' dribbling activity, allowing pupils to reflect on what they've practised.
