Medium Term Plan - Rugby - Year 10
Physical Education Resource Description
The Year 10 rugby scheme of work is a comprehensive six-lesson plan, aimed at Key Stage 4 students, with the intent to enhance core rugby skills, apply tactics under pressure, and foster teamwork and leadership. The plan is structured to progress from fundamental skills to the application of these skills in game-like situations. Students will learn to perform and adapt various rugby techniques such as passing, receiving, tackling, rucking, scrummaging, and line-outs. They will also tackle the roles of coaching and officiating, gaining a deeper appreciation for the game's rules and the importance of sportsmanship and active lifestyles.
Each week focuses on a different aspect of the game, starting with passing and the use of width, moving through strategic play to outwit opponents, and tackling and rucking techniques. Students will also delve into restarting play through line-outs and scrums, and the final week will concentrate on the role of the referee. The curriculum is designed to cater to varying levels of ability and understanding, with differentiation strategies in place to ensure all students are engaged and challenged. The end goal is for students to demonstrate a mastery of the game, both physically and mentally, through improved fitness, tactical awareness, decision-making, and leadership skills.
