Medium Term Plan - Basketball - Year 10
Physical Education Resource Description
The Year 10 basketball medium-term plan, designed for Key Stage 4 students, spans six lessons with the intent to enhance core basketball skills and apply them under pressure to outmanoeuvre opponents. The curriculum aims to cultivate game tactics, encourage teamwork, and instil a deeper understanding of healthy lifestyles and fitness. Students will develop their skills in ball control, dribbling, passing, shooting, and defensive positioning through a structured sequence of learning that progressively increases in challenge and speed. The plan also focuses on fostering mental and physical capacity, creative problem-solving, and decision-making, with opportunities for students to take on coaching and refereeing roles to build leadership skills.
Implementation of the plan is detailed with weekly learning objectives and suggested activities that cater to varying skill levels. The first week targets reverse and left-hand lay-ups, progressing to strategic plays like screens and post moves in the following weeks. Shooting techniques, such as jump shots, are honed, and students explore attacking and defensive roles through drills and small-sided games. The course concludes with a focus on the role of the referee, emphasising communication and adaptability. Throughout the six weeks, students are encouraged to self-assess and peer-assess to improve performance, all the while considering the potential careers in the sports industry. Each lesson includes differentiation strategies and assessment tools to ensure personalised learning experiences for all students.
