Medium Term Plan - Cricket - Year 8

The Year 8 cricket medium term plan, designed for Key Stage 3, spans six lessons with the aim to enhance students' cricketing skills in batting, bowling, and fielding. The intent is to enable students to accurately replicate and refine these techniques, improve their strategic thinking to outmanoeuvre opponents, and build confidence in their movements. Additionally, the plan focuses on testing mental capacity through scoring and officiating games. Students will learn to apply cricket techniques in a competitive setting, use sport-specific terminology, and understand modified game rules. The plan outlines a progression of skills, including the drive and pull shots in batting, bowling techniques, and fielding skills like sending/receiving and positioning.

The lessons are structured to progressively challenge students, incorporating gameplay for tactical planning and decision-making. Confidence in movement will be developed, especially in relation to striking and fielding games. Students will learn to outwit opponents by placing the ball strategically on the field using various techniques. The plan also aims to develop physical and mental capacity by engaging students in intense cricket games, teaching them detailed game terminology, rules, and umpire signals, and encouraging reflective learning to refine tactics. Personal development is also a key focus, with the aim to build resilience, independence, communication skills, and sportsmanship.
