Medium Term Plan - Cricket - Year 7
Physical Education Resource Description
The Year 7 cricket medium term plan is designed for a six-lesson sequence with the intent of enhancing core cricket skills such as batting, bowling, and fielding. The overarching goal is to improve students' ability to outwit opponents through strategic play and deceptive striking. The curriculum aims to foster confidence and competence in the physical movements associated with cricket, ensuring students develop a comprehensive understanding of the game's techniques and terminology. They will learn simple strategies to outmanoeuvre the opposition and apply modified game rules in various contexts.
Each lesson is structured to progressively challenge students, beginning with ball familiarisation and catching, advancing through fielding techniques, and culminating in competitive gameplay where students apply a combination of skills. The plan emphasises the development of physical and mental capacity, including sustained physical movements and cricket-specific calculations. Pupils will also focus on decision making and problem-solving in changing game situations. Personal development is a key component, with sportsmanship and British values such as tolerance and respect highlighted throughout the programme. Evaluation and improvement of performance are encouraged through peer assessment and self-reflection. The impact of the programme is assessed through emerging, developing, and mastery levels of anticipation, coordination, skill execution, game strategy, and understanding of warm-ups and rules, with an eye towards potential careers in the sports industry.
