Medium Term Plan - Cricket - Year 6
Physical Education Resource Description
The Year 6 Cricket Medium Term Plan, designed for Key Stage 2, spans over 6 lessons and aims to enhance students' fundamental cricket skills such as sending, receiving, batting, and bowling within various game scenarios. The curriculum's intent is not only to improve technical abilities but also to foster qualities like teamwork, leadership, and strategic thinking. Throughout the six-week course, pupils will learn to apply cricket techniques, understand and use sport-specific vocabulary, and grasp the rules of the game. Additionally, they will develop cooperative strategies and decision-making skills that are integral to cricket.
The learning sequence is structured to progressively build on the students' existing skills, starting with ball familiarisation and moving towards more complex aspects of the game, such as batting and bowling tactics. The course includes physical warm-ups and practical exercises that aim to develop both physical and mental capacities, with a focus on outwitting opponents and refining skill replication. The PE lessons will also touch on cross-curricular elements, incorporating literacy through key vocabulary and numeracy through cricket scoring and calculations. By the end of the course, students will have progressed from replicating basic motions to demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of the game, including advanced tactics and the ability to take on leadership roles within their teams. The scheme of work follows the Kwik Cricket format, ensuring that the activities are engaging and accessible for all pupils.
