Max Maths, Year 4, Try it, Different times of the day

In an engaging exercise from the Max Maths Year 4 curriculum, students are invited to apply their understanding of time to real-life situations. Padma has been on an adventure, capturing moments from various locations in her home town. However, she has left out an essential detail in her notes – whether the photos were taken in the morning or the evening. The task for the students is to use their knowledge of daily routines and contexts to deduce whether each time should be labelled with 'a.m.' for ante meridiem (before noon) or 'p.m.' for post meridiem (after noon).

The activity presents four different scenarios: a photo taken at the local restaurant at 8.15, another at the airport at 9.45, a third at the stadium near her house at 11.30, and the last one at the park in town at 3.30. Students must think about the typical times these places are visited and decide whether the times given are likely to be in the morning or the afternoon/evening. This exercise not only helps to reinforce the 12-hour clock concept but also encourages critical thinking about daily activities and their usual times.
