Max Maths, Year 3, Practice, Relationship among units of time
Maths Resource Description
In a Year 3 mathematics exercise, students are encouraged to explore the relationship among units of time through a series of conversion tasks. The "Let's Try It" section presents three problems designed to help children understand how smaller units of time can be combined into larger ones, and vice versa. For instance, they are asked to convert 1 hour and 20 minutes into just minutes, 5 minutes and 2 seconds into seconds, and 2 weeks and 3 days into days. This exercise not only supports their mathematical skills but also enhances their understanding of time measurement and its practical applications in everyday life.
The "Let's Practise" section delves deeper, challenging students with more complex conversions. They are required to convert mixed units such as 1 week and 8 days into just days, 2 hours and 25 minutes into minutes, and 2 years and 8 months into months, thereby reinforcing their grasp of time units. Additionally, the exercise includes tasks where students must break down larger units into smaller ones, converting 125 minutes into hours and minutes, 15 days into weeks and days, and 18 months into years and months. These activities are designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of how different time units relate to each other, fostering a practical and intuitive sense of time management and calculation.
