Vocabulary Quiz - Measurement: Area, Perimeter and Length
Maths Resource Description
The KS2Gems 2022 Vocabulary Quiz is an educational tool designed to test Year 6 students on their understanding of measurement terms related to length, area, and perimeter. The quiz comprises a series of multiple-choice questions, each providing four possible answers to test the students' knowledge of specific vocabulary and concepts. For instance, the symbol cm² is correctly identified as being used when the area of a shape has been calculated using centimetres. The quiz also asks students to interpret abbreviations such as l x b, which stands for multiplying the length by the breadth of a shape, and mph, which means miles per hour.
Further questions delve into definitions, such as the term 'area' being the measurement of space inside a 2-Dimensional shape, and 'perimeter' being the measurement of the distance around the outside of a 2-Dimensional shape. Students are also quizzed on the meaning of 'rectilinear'—a shape that has straight sides and right angles—and the term 'convert', which means to change a value or expression from one form to another. The quiz continues to explore geometrical and measurement concepts, such as the circumference of a circle and the breadth of a shape, and concludes with a question on imperial units, the traditional system of weights and measures used officially in Great Britain from 1824 until the adoption of the metric system beginning in 1965.
