Place Value Target Boards 1
Maths Resource Description
The "Place Value Target Boards" resource, created by KS2Gems in 2021, offers a dynamic and interactive way for Year 6 students to practice and reinforce their understanding of place value in numbers up to at least 10,000,000. The objective of this educational tool is to help students determine the value of each digit in large numbers, compare and order these numbers, and round them to a required degree of accuracy. This resource is designed to be versatile, suitable for both whole class engagement and small group activities, making it an excellent choice for starting or wrapping up a maths lesson with some retrieval practice.
Using the target boards, teachers can display a variety of numbers and pose challenges to the students, such as identifying how many numbers have a certain digit exceeding a specific value or arranging a set of numbers in ascending order. For example, a teacher might ask students to find how many numbers on the board have a ten thousands digit greater than 8, put numbers from the middle row in ascending order, or round all the numbers in the bottom row to the nearest 10,000. With whiteboards and pens, children can work out the answers, offering an easy way to differentiate instruction and challenge various groups simultaneously. Each target board is filled with a selection of numbers, providing ample opportunity for practice and mastery of place value concepts.
