Multiplication and Division Target Board - Written multiplication and division
Maths Resource Description
KS2Gems has developed a resourceful tool for Year 5 students to practice and enhance their multiplication and division skills. Target Board 1 sets clear objectives for learners: to multiply numbers up to four digits by a one or two-digit whole number using a formal written method, including long multiplication for two-digit numbers. Additionally, it aims to teach students to divide numbers up to four digits by a one-digit whole number using the formal written method of short division, while also learning to interpret remainders in a way that is appropriate for the given context.
The Target Boards themselves are designed to facilitate quick and effective maths skill exercises, suitable for both the start and end of a lesson. They are versatile enough to be used with the entire class or within small group settings. By displaying the board, children are encouraged to use whiteboards and pens to solve the problems presented. The boards are also adaptable to cater for various levels of ability, allowing teachers to set different challenges to different groups at the same time. For instance, a teacher might challenge the class to find pairs of numbers on the board that, when multiplied, yield a product greater than 25,000. This interactive and engaging approach to learning makes the Target Boards an excellent tool for retrieval practice and reinforcing key mathematical concepts.
