Percentages Odd One Out
Maths Resource Description
The "Odd One Out" activity is an engaging way for KS2 students to enhance their understanding of percentages through visual representations. In this exercise, children are presented with a series of images, each depicting different percentages, and they are tasked with identifying the image that does not match the others in terms of the percentage shown. This activity not only helps in recognising percentages but also in explaining the reasoning behind their choices.
For instance, in one scenario, students might be shown three images where two represent 50% and one depicts 40%. The challenge is to spot the 40% as the odd one out and explain why it is different. Similarly, in another set, the odd one out might be an image showing 20%, while the other two represent 10%. This pattern continues with various percentages, such as identifying an image showing 80% when the others show 70%, or picking out 30% when the rest are 10%. The activity is designed to be both educational and enjoyable, encouraging students to apply their knowledge of percentages in a practical and visual context.
