Counting up and down in hundredths worksheet

Each child says the next hundredth in sequence, and those who make a mistake sit down, continuing until only one child remains standing. This activity can be varied by timing the exercise or by introducing a 'Switch' command to change the counting direction.

Activity 2 utilises a counting stick with marked intervals and sets of hundredth cards or post-it notes. Children start at zero and count in hundredths, attaching the cards to the stick to represent the numbers. They can also be challenged to place hundredths correctly on the counting stick and explain their reasoning. Activity 3 involves sorting different visual representations of hundredths and explaining the rationale for the groupings. These activities are designed to reinforce the objective of counting in hundredths and understanding that hundredths result from dividing an object by 100 or a tenth by 10.

Further enhancing their understanding, Activity 4 introduces number lines and hundredths digit cards in both fraction and decimal form. Children select digit cards and place them on the number line, explaining their placements. This can be varied by using additional digit cards or altering the number line. In Activity 5, children use Place Value Mats and counters to represent whole numbers and then divide these by 10 to show the result in hundredths on a second mat. Partner checks ensure accuracy.
