Max Maths, Year 6, Learn together, Angles in a triangle (2)
Maths Resource Description
In the Max Maths curriculum for Year 6, students are encouraged to deepen their understanding of angles within different types of triangles. One of the exercises focuses on finding the missing angle in a right-angled triangle. The students are reminded that the sum of the angles in any triangle totals 180°. Given two angles, one being 30° and the other a right angle at 90°, the students must calculate the third angle, denoted as 'b'. By subtracting the known angles from 180°, they discover that 'b' equals 60°, thus completing the angle sum for the triangle.
Another exercise challenges students to find the missing angles in an isosceles triangle, where two sides and, consequently, two angles are equal. With one angle given as 26°, students use the fact that the sum of angles in a triangle is 180° to find the other two angles. By subtracting the given angle from 180°, they determine the sum of the equal angles, which they then divide by two to find that each angle is 77°. Additionally, a Maths Challenge asks students to consider whether a triangle with two angles measuring 60° each can be classified as an equilateral triangle. This encourages critical thinking about the properties of equilateral triangles and the equality of their angles and sides.
