Where did the Anglo-Saxons originate from and when did they invade our country? - Teacher's Notes
History Resource Description
The Anglo-Saxons were a group of people who originated from what is now Germany, Denmark, and the Netherlands. In an effort to understand the origins and impact of the Anglo-Saxons, pupils are encouraged to explore various resources, including a map of Europe to pinpoint the exact regions from which these early settlers travelled. By engaging with educational content, such as the BBC Bitesize article on the Anglo-Saxons, students can delve into the rich history and evidence of the Anglo-Saxon presence in Britain.
Their invasion of Britain is a significant historical event, and it is believed to have started in the 5th century, around 400AD. The goal for the students is not only to learn about who the Anglo-Saxons were but also to understand the lasting influence they have on modern British life. To showcase their acquired knowledge, students are tasked with creating a set of 15 questions for a class quiz and participating in an Anglo-Saxon chase game. Additionally, they are provided with a timeline that spans from 400AD to 1066AD, which will aid them in constructing a comprehensive narrative of the events and changes that occurred during the Anglo-Saxon period in Britain.
