Verbs - Passive SATs Style Questions

KS2Gems has crafted a series of five SATs style questions for Year 6 students, focusing on the use of passive verbs. These questions are designed to mimic the format of past SATs papers, helping students to familiarise themselves with the kind of grammar, punctuation, and spelling queries they may encounter in their assessments. Teachers are provided with answers immediately following each question, allowing for quick assessment and the opportunity to use the questions as a starter activity to either gauge student knowledge or facilitate retrieval practice.

The questions specifically require students to identify and manipulate sentences to change them from active to passive voice, or vice versa, and to recognise whether a sentence is written in the active or passive form. For example, students are asked to rewrite the active sentence "The lorry demolished the wall" into the passive form as "The wall was demolished by the lorry." This exercise aims to enhance students' understanding of sentence structure and the effect of voice on a sentence's meaning. Additionally, students are asked to tick boxes to indicate the voice used in various sentences, such as "The car was driven by Mr Taylor" and "In the woods, a giant stomped on the flowers," further reinforcing their comprehension of the active and passive voice.
