Prefixes 2 SATs Style Questions
English Resource Description
KS2Gems has crafted a series of five SATs style questions focusing on the use of prefixes in English grammar. These questions are designed to test students' understanding of how prefixes can alter the meaning of root words and are modelled after the style of questions found in past SATs papers. The exercises are intended to be used as a starter activity, either to assess students' prior knowledge or for retrieval practice to reinforce their understanding of prefixes.
The first question asks students to determine the meaning of the word 'irresponsible' when the prefix 'ir-' is added to 'responsible', with the correct answer being 'to not be responsible'. The second question challenges students to identify a single prefix that can be added to the words 'way', 'scribe', and 'marine' to form their antonyms, which is 'sub'. The third and fifth questions involve matching prefixes to root words to create new words, ensuring that each prefix is used only once. In the fourth question, students are asked to define the meaning of the prefix 'super' as seen in the words 'superstar', 'supervisor', and 'supernatural', with the correct answer being 'over'. These exercises are valuable for enhancing students' vocabulary and grammatical skills in preparation for their SATs.
