Sentence Types SATs Style Questions
English Resource Description
KS2Gems has crafted a series of five SATs style questions for Year 6 students, focusing on identifying and understanding different sentence types. This set of questions is designed to test students' knowledge in areas of Grammar, Punctuation, and Spelling (GPS), particularly in distinguishing between statements, commands, and questions. These questions are modelled after those found in past SATs papers, providing an authentic practice experience for students. Each question is followed by an answer slide, making it easy for teachers to use these questions as a quick starter activity to assess and reinforce students' knowledge.
The first question asks students to identify which of the given sentences is a statement, with the correct answer being "I found my shoes under my bed." The second question prompts students to write a command that could serve as the first step in a set of instructions for brushing teeth, with acceptable answers including "Pick up your toothbrush" or "Put toothpaste on the toothbrush." The third question requires students to pick out a command from a list of sentences, with "Bring a cake to the party" being the correct command. The fourth question involves ticking boxes to classify sentences as either commands or questions. Finally, the fifth question challenges students to circle the words in a given sentence that indicate it is a command, with "press the button" being the imperative phrase. These exercises are ideal for daily practice and help reinforce students' understanding of sentence structures.
