Clauses SATs Style Questions
English Resource Description
KS2Gems has crafted a series of SATs style questions for Key Stage 2 pupils, focusing on the understanding and identification of clauses within sentences. This set of exercises is designed to help students recognise different types of clauses, a fundamental aspect of Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS). The questions are modelled after those found in past SATs papers, providing a realistic practice opportunity. Each of the five questions targets a specific area related to clauses, and answers are conveniently provided after each question, allowing for immediate feedback and learning reinforcement. These questions are ideal for use as a starter activity in the classroom, either to gauge students' existing knowledge or as a tool for retrieval practice to solidify their understanding.
The exercises include identifying relative clauses, distinguishing between main and subordinate clauses, and labelling grammatical terms for specific parts of sentences. For example, one question asks students to pinpoint the sentence that contains a relative clause from a given selection. Another requires them to label clauses as either main or subordinate within a particular sentence. Additionally, there is a task where students must underline the relative clause in different sentences, and a question that asks them to classify the type of clause that has been underlined. These activities are designed to enhance students' grammatical skills and prepare them for the types of questions they might encounter in their SATs.
