Adverbials SATs Style Questions
English Resource Description
KS2Gems has created a set of SATs style questions aimed at enhancing students' understanding of adverbials. These five questions are modelled after the types of queries found in past SATs papers, focusing on the area of Grammar, Punctuation, and Spelling (GPS). The exercises are intended to be used as a starter activity, either for assessing students' existing knowledge or for retrieval practice, which helps reinforce what they have already learned.
The questions require students to engage with sentences and identify or add adverbials. For example, students are asked to underline the adverbial in the sentence "In July, Sam is going on holiday." In another task, they must determine which of four sentences contains an adverbial, such as "Last night, he went to the new restaurant." The exercises also challenge students to add an adverbial to a given sentence, like "Frankie arrived in Paris," and then to identify the grammatical term for underlined words in sentences, such as "In 1066, William the Conqueror invaded England," which is an adverbial. Each question is followed by a slide providing the answers, allowing for immediate feedback and discussion.
