Exclamation and Question Marks SATs Style Questions
English Resource Description
KS2Gems has crafted a series of SATs style questions specifically designed to test pupils' understanding of exclamation and question marks. This set of five questions is a valuable tool for teachers to assess students' grasp of punctuation in sentences. Each question is modelled on the format of past SATs papers, providing a realistic practice experience for students. The questions are intended to be used as a quick starter activity, either to evaluate current knowledge or for retrieval practice, ensuring that students are actively recalling and applying their learning.
The first question asks students to identify which sentence should end with a question mark, focusing on their ability to recognise interrogative sentences. The second question flips the focus to exclamation marks, asking students to find the sentence that should not conclude with such punctuation. As the series progresses, students are further challenged to distinguish between statements, commands, exclamations, and questions, applying the correct punctuation mark accordingly. Each question comes with an answer slide for immediate feedback, allowing for clarification and discussion of common errors and misconceptions. This exercise not only sharpens students' punctuation skills but also enhances their overall writing fluency.
