Formal and Informal Quiz

The KS2 Grammar Quiz is an educational tool designed to help Year 6 students understand the differences between formal and informal writing. This quiz comprises 10 questions, each with an accompanying answer slide, and serves as a practical application of the concepts taught in the accompanying teaching PowerPoint. The quiz can be utilized for retrieval practice after teaching formal and informal writing, to assess pupil knowledge before teaching, or as a starter activity to engage students.

Questions in the quiz cover various aspects of formal and informal writing, such as identifying formal writing characteristics, distinguishing between formal and informal sentences, and transforming phrases to match a formal or informal style. For example, students are asked to change specific words to formalize statements or to make formal statements more colloquial. The quiz also includes true-or-false questions about the use of formal language and tasks students with identifying formal vocabulary within sentences.
