Brightstorm - Session 21 - Word Workshop

The Brightstorm Session 21 Word Workshop is an educational activity designed to enhance vocabulary skills among KS2 students. This interactive session provides a structured approach to understanding and using new words through a variety of exercises. Each word is explored in depth, with students being asked to define its meaning, use it in a sentence, and modify it by adding prefixes, suffixes, changing its form or tense. Additionally, they are encouraged to think critically about language by identifying synonyms—words with similar meanings—as well as antonyms, which are words with opposite meanings. Words such as 'glimmer', 'enveloping', 'manipulating', and 'security' are a few examples from the workshop list. Students are prompted to classify each word into its correct word class, such as noun, verb, adjective, etc. The workshop engages students in a creative and analytical manner, prompting them to consider how words can be transformed and how they relate to other words in terms of meaning.
